Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 2021-04-05 The meeting was called to order at 19:30 by kjchen. I'm going to open to a Zoom poll shortly. For this vote, I'm opening this to anyone who's at the meeting, regardless if you are a keyholder. emmbat: I guess we want a brief moment for discussion if anyone has any comments? It's my opinion we should sign on to it since we are a community that was involved with SFS and as such I think it's approriate for us to make some statement about it because what RMS has done is wrong. cela: If we do sign on, we should make sure to in the entry on their website our qualifications that we helped hosted Libreplanet in the past (exact year will require further rsearch) so people can know who we are. jnwagener: I noticed in the letter it was calling for the resignation of the entire board. Is the current board the ones who had the power to reinstate him as part of the board? kjchen: According to the letter it does say that the board permitted RMS to rejoin. emmabat: I'm not exactly sure, but I do know some of the board members have also chose to resign already. cela: It's also important to note that it is more than just one decision that allows for RMS to be reinstanted on the board. The SFS has consistently shown be a form of a fan club for RMS in some senses, or at least has stood out as a group that has supported him at the loss of other people. emmabat: Right, this is like the last in the series of decisions to support RMS that eventually lead to this petition. kjchen: I've now open the poll, with the options of "Yes", "No, and "abstain". Here "Yes" means yes to sign the letter. All the voting will be anonymous. kenta: I like the title of the poll: "should we do it?" [ :W: ] [Results of the poll: 11 yes, 1 no, 3 abstain] emmabat: Kjchen are you okay with taking charge of signing the letter and reaching out to Fay(?) about the years we hosted LibrePlanet? kjchen: Yup. emmabat: In the interest of making SIPB-tea a thing, I'm thinking of making the first one this Saturday at 11 AM? kjchen: Can we make it midly latter? emmbabat: Is 1PM EST work for people? [nods from some members] emmabat: I'm also thinking of making allocation for $10 for each person so they can purchase up to $10 worth in tea-related items. Does anyone know if they will want to join in? The general idea is that we'll have tea and hang out. I've also created a Discord server that I figure we can turn into a really fun, reasonable space. It could be a fun experimental space for crazy ideas (in the past we've made mailing lists that are intended to create spam, so likewise I was thinking we can have a channel that's dedicated to just hosting whatever Discord bots people can find). I want for this to be a community experience for all of SIPB to join in. mitimmy [in chat]: I'll be down to join. huydai: I'm interested. emmabat: If anyone doesn't know what this is, the idea of "sipb-tea" came to me from an advertisement [as all good ideas do]. emmabat: Request for allocation of $100 for the SIPB-tea event this Sunday at 1PM. I really want for this to be a community bonding experience where we all have memes and ideas together. So make sure to check to see if you are in that group and sign up. arpl: Idk how recent this is but 500 million Facebook users info are being sold on some dark forums. kenta: Does anyone changing your password would help you protect yourself against this? quentin: It was all publicly scraped data in 2019 from Facebook, so changing password wouldn't have helped. arpl: Apparently this bug was fixed a while ago. huydai: A friend of mine is trying to build a PC recently, and he told me he couldn't find any GPU anywhere. I just checked Microcenter today and was horrified to see the GPUs they have left was the GT 710 and AMD RX 550. quentin: It's impossible to get a graphic cards these days. That's why they make APUs where the graphic cards are integrated in the CPU. arpl: You should rent one from the cloud. quentin: NVIDIA just allowed virtualization with their consumer graphic cards. So if anyone wants to play with VM with GPUs you can do that now. arpl: Can you run a VM on a GPU? quentin: No but you CAN run a GPU on a VM. kenta: I had an idea a while ago, and since it's going to be a while before we can get back to our office, if anyone needs a PC with a graphics card, we can arrange for someone to go into the office and get a PC for someone to use. Obviously the board will have to agree to such a thing, but it might be a better use of the PC in our office since they are not doing anything right now. The meeting was adjourned at 19:48.
