Members present: RDZ, JR, DFM, Amy, RF, JIS, RK, DRM, BARMAR, CLM, PSR, PAE, CBF, GMP. Prospectives: Lee Tavrow, Allen Ball, Don Becker. Meeting called to order at 7:39 pm. Minutes don't want to be read. CBF says to read them. RK says read & edit on the fly. Ramin introduces the sipb. He then starts to read the minutes and does this slowly because he must explain everything to prospectives. JR mumbles in RDZ's direction a lot. RDZ punts the minutes. Treasurers report. Talk to the Treasurer. Chairman's report. 5 things he was supposed to check. (1) Dean Wilson. We won't be on the big Athena Board. There are 4 subcommittees: DEC, IBM, Coherence, and Administration. The first two hand out computers. The second tries to do the right thing and the last handles details. They are also getting 20m$ of real (!) money to spend. I hope that RDZ will write a short report of the meeting that he had with Wilson and send it to SIPB@mc. (2) Doug Wilson [yes, it is confusing]. He knows where our lost PDP-11 is. He is on vacation. We will try to find him later. (3) Wes Burner (funding student organizations). JIS explains the infrastructure of IPS. Wes explains that he doesn't have his discretionary fund yet, so he can't fund students yet. We are funding in until he gets a budget if the org's need funding badly. We will probably pick up the slack if Wes doesn't fund in the long run. (4) Jim Bruce re/athena. he is out of town. (5) concentrator. ignored this week. office report. nil computer services report. Wellesley 107 (religion). Tell them to use the tie lines. or type the papers here and xerox them instead of trying to hack more esoteric fixes. Random (hall) wants a box of paper for an epson printer that someone there has. given. Retrievals. RDZ thought that we couldn't retrieve, but we can. Spinwronger. RDZ, J9 thought that it was broken, but it is probably just the 'quiet cover' that has been binding the platten. LA120 should go to stu cen. Strat House. Sub committee meeting w/ CBF, RF, DFM, RDZ and anyone else who want to come on tuesday evening. rain date wednesday evening. They will plan and then do the stu cen terminal room. BARMAR says that frosh should go on 'outings'. The terminal room lock will be a K-62 so that the office key will work. Telecommunications report. Dinarte was elected telco chairman taking the job from the secretary (yea!) he will tell us who hasn't paid. (no) Publications Report. Annual Report Report. We are close to missing a year. do we care? apparently not. R/O report. Midway. went well, but we needed more people there. Tour. small turnout because it was friday. Next year we should do it on Tuesday. 11/44 report (???) IAP report. (naturally) it gets closer. To Meeting Applications. (RDZ almost forgot again) BSU wants us to maintain there new VT101 and Vadic modem. We decide to deal with their terminal. It is unclear whether we will put it under contract, or just deal with it when it breaks. CBF and I think that this is a bad idea. After all, the sipb is trying to get out of supporting terminals at frats. TSO, YI. had 50, wants 50. survey of asian MIT faculty. given. Howland, Greg. had 80, wants 100. used 80 for a resume and isn't done yet. hmmm. deferred. Kazerooni, Homayoon. had 100, wnats 50. for learning Honey-X. (still). some think that it is beginning to sound like thesis work. deferred til we learn more. Other. Harvard is installing coin operated word processors. 1$/hour. will go up to 2$/hour in november. sounds like unbounded lossage. Other Other. PAE and others went on a bike trip with 3 or 4 frosh this weekend. they had fun. Classes start tomorrow. (yuk!). If you go quickly you can make the last showing of the reg day movie.
