Can we give him money for '85 newsletter? ($100) Given Ishida, Wesley: had $150 wants $50 for text editing. Given $100 Niewiarowski, Julius: had $150, wants $100 for programming. Lost big when he was looping: Given. Ramin is going to speak to Jim Bruce about a larger budget. It looks as if we will spend a @i(lot) of money @i(at least) 80K. CHAIRMAN'S REPORT SIPBOLC has money now. There was a problem with things like keeping save mailboxes in ~>sipbolc. ELECTIONS!!! Bill Habeck has been nominated for membership. Weeeeee!!!!! There is some discussion about who should ask hime THE QUESTION. He likes computers, helping people, keeping in shape for his summer job. The final score-> t:8 nil:0 Ramin and Dan will write a proposal for Jim Bruce. RDZ is pretty sure we can get at least 70K as Prof. Bruce thinks he gave up this much last year... We should give him 4 different proposals. (for different levels of spending). He will pick one of them... We got the check from finboard and the Chairman lost it. ($1500) (He finds it again). ATHENA REPORT There will probably a student organization without power and responsibility about Project Athena. There will be some sort of meeting the tuesday before thanksgiving and maybe some sort of semi-formal meeting later on.... Generally this is very vague. We swept with the nominations for the committees. Dec: rdz + Courtney Grey Ibm: wcs Technical: cbf Ops: bcn There is an Athena Cluster beneath us and 25 pair wires running between here and the Athena room due to lots of work by some sipb members over the weekend.. Bruce is having a problem with a place to put our machine. Wherever we put our machine, there will be athena machines. We will have a key. This may be a security problem. rdz should assure Jim Bruce that we are not malicious. Text processing: It does look as if everybody (mit students, faculty) will get accounts next year. People will do text editing whether we want them to or not. OFFICE REPORT Barmar is giving up his drawer. We now have an extra drawer... We are out of NETS and NUMS. "Lets get like 500 of the damn things" says rdz. It's ridiculous to keep running out. We've used about 500 already. We already have 1300 users. This is a very large number. We are going to try to write some software for opening accounts and adding money automatically... Last year's applications have not yet been typed in. There is some discussion about whether we should do this. Worry about this over IAP. We apparently own some space in a storage room downstairs. We should find some cruft to put in it. COMPUTER SERVICES Our dear friend the auto limit. How about raising it $50 and if dfm and rdz don't have a report in Jim Bruce's office by friday, they will be shot. -rdz Auto limit raised to $200. The Wallchart: It has been done. The dover was out of paper (not badly broken, as a sign on it said). The wallchart is sitting in a queue. TELECOMMUNICATIONS REPORT With great cooperation from old members, the chaosnet now goes from jcf -> athena machine room -> here -> jcf. We also have 25 pairs downstairs to the athena machine room. SC tables, keys. I (wcs) lost. Will do this sometine in the near furure. The letters to the dormitories were lost. Who took them??? Service Contracts: IPS want to change vendors on our service contracts. We should probably go along with IPS unless somebody has initiative. -cbf rk disaggrees. We should tell IPS that we want to leave it the way it is. A small amount of flaming ensues... nothing real is decided. We have a month. TERMINAL REPORT There is one broken terminal: it is at dataterm. (an h19) There is a check on the board to pay for it. This is foolish since a that would be real money. We should use a greasy account for it... wcs volunteers to walk it through or at least ask Dinarte if he wants to do it. PUBLICATIONS REPORT See above re: wallchart and nets and nums... IAP REPORT not much OTHER Jeff tells us about how he came in sunday morning to fix a problem with disk space. He found files which haven't been touched since '74. rk was in dc last week. He saw kam, bill and shawn. The security at the pentagon is strange since the bombing at the capitol. (briefcase checking) SIPB should get an MCI mail account.
