Minutes of the meeting of 9/19/77.

Meeting was called to order at 19:31.

In attendance:  DCH, CRD, RDM, RK, DLW, AB, CWH, LSP, DAS, SAS, BSG, ACW, archy, and
many randoms, to be named later.

Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.  (CBF walked in
at this point)

Paul E. Hoffman requested money to do some crunching on political data
involving the US, USSR, and China for UROP project.  (OTA walked in
at this point) Looks potentially expensive, but given $100
to start.  Will come back soon and give a report.

RK violently asked Charles Hornig why our terminal (the one borrowed by the
R/O group to put in the Dean's office) was not returned by them.
He did not know.  We will take some sort of action next year...

Multics report:
NBDD went offline for a day, from Friday to Saturday.  Roger Roach
gave Bernie a gold star for system performance in the face of adverse
conditions.  Micro-fiche output will be available in October.

Shift 1 registered ECS needs to be shut off.  RDM and RK need to be added
to SIPBADMIN.

We should bring the sucker up!  End of the month target date?  (MLK walked in
at this point) Should we make a clean break with the old ECS?  Should we
run them paralelly?

Telecommunications report:
DCH called Telecommunications to report the MacGregor dataset down (again).

Other:
Modifications to by-laws:  New membership shall be obtained by garnering
floor (total_membership/2) & ciel (present_and_voting*2/3).  Membership
voted to recommend that the EC approve this amendment.  Old form B's
are being on-lined at a furiously slow rate.  archy will re-vamp the
Office Procedures notebook.  Office hours were assigned (more or
less) .  (JMB callled at this point and then got succeedingly more disappated)

Applications:  $740 autoed, $120 given, $250 deferred, $860 total.

Wallace, Kevin G.:  $50 to learn 370 JCL.  Given.

Mink, Al:  $20 to learn QX.  Given.

Iverson:  $50 to learn LISP.  Given.

Curry, Kevin:  $250 for total horseshit (something to do with salmon
migrations, and the conservation of energy resultant from them). Deferred until
we can talk him into using the 370, or know the reson why.

Other other:
Motion to restrict all auto applications for the 370 to things that cannot
be done elsewhere (i.e.  Multics).  Passed, 6-4.  archy noted that people should
return the books that they have borrowed.
