               Minutes of the SIPB Meeting of 10/29/79

The meeting was called to order at 19:31 by JIS.

In attendance were RDM, Soley, RLL, JIS, NAHA, PAE, HGA, BSG, Jon Taft,
	DPC, JKL, CWH, GMP, DCP, WER, ALAN, KHS, Newton Lui, c|,
	Dorothy, and RMP.
	Late were ACW, archy, Gonzo, CAH, and JSL.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and accepted as changed.
	ACW came in at this point.

***User Interrupts***
	Jeremy Barkan, no amount, for text editing for Bnai Kiv.
	Gonzo and archy came in at this point.
	There was a motion to give $50 for developement only; passes.
	There was a motion to reject all monies for organizational
	use; rejected.

	Technique, Bill Hoffman, no amount specified, for text editing
	for the yearbook.  CAH came in at this point and took over the
	chair.  There was a motion to give $80; passes.

	Pirie, Gordon, $50, for VS1 batch for processing data to
	publish in a journal.  There was a motion to pass but on
	Multics; passes.

Treasurer's Report:  We have spent $4491.16 so far this month, and
	$1340.00 this past week.  Pay your SIPB account balances!

Chairman's Report:  ()

Office Report:  KTOC.  Clean up the desk when you leave it!  The
	office cassete tape library is now in archy's drawer.

370 Report:  ()

Multics Report:  Two new disk drives have arrived. The Honeywell
	contract will be signed by IPC this week.  Emacs has been made
	much more usable; check the info segs.  The Student Center
	terminals need to have a way to hang them up; the secretary
	lost badly this weekend.  Two of the telerays (the two on the
	left) are both gronked.

ECS Report:  ECS broke again; your friendly neighborhood Palter fixed
	it. (It was new_proc'ing every time you tried to log out).

CS Report:  ()

Telecommunications Report:  (See Multics report)  The Baker House
	terminal is down  again (though it was just worked on by DEC).
	There is a report that the Random House terminal is down.
	Senior House has called about their modem; it has not been
	fixed.  The Student Center printer died today; it is up and
	working presently.  JSL came in at this point.

Publications Report:  CWH will work on some new Emacs documentation
	(especially since Emacs changed a lot this weekend.)  Green
	cards still need to be done.

Annual Report Report:  More needs to be done!

IAP report:  There will be a contest and a Lisp course this IAP!  Jon
	Taft is organizing the Lisp course, and ALAN and CRD the
	contest.

Elections:  There were elections for:
	Jon Taft  :  13 for, 0 against, 2 abstentions; elected.
	Harold Ancell (HGA)  :  15 for, 0 against, 0 abstentions; elected.
	Ken Sinclair (KHS)  :  9 for, 0 against, 6 abstentions; elected.

Other:  John McCarthy will be doing a lecture tomorrow.  There is a
	course six happy hour tomorrow.

Applications:  (See user interrupts above)
	EC vote: $10 for the MIT Musical Theatre Guild, to finish
	their mailing.

	Otsu, $110 for a term paper for course XXIV (was autoed $40).
	There was a motion to give $110; given.

	Totals: $795 autoed on Student, $40 autoed on ECS.
		$290 given at meeting.
		$10 given by EC vote.
	Total:  $1095
	Warning form: Zahir Ebrahim - was tired of the lines for UNIX.

Other Other:  There was discussion about the SIPB's "policies"
	pertaining to funding, including theses, small text editing
	projects, and UROP projects.  Perhaps some department heads
	should be talked to about text editing on Multics.  NAHA is
	looking into it.  Sparks is sending a new S-1 jokebook, and
	some other stuff.  He is coming east on the seventeenth.  Dave
	Moon and c| are going west soon.  The ASA has sent an
	announcement to us about the upcoming meeting.  There will be
	cider and donuts at archy's house on Halloween night.  There
	will be a meeting of the General Assembly soon; RLL is going.
	New member balances have been transmitted; PAY them.
