SIPB Computer tours are coming up on Thursday September 4th, 1997,
and I seem to have gotten suckered into organizing them. You seem
to have gotten suckered into helping.

The tour is aimed at new MIT students, to give them an inside look at
the interesting uses of computers in various labs and groups around
campus. It's a good opportunity both for students to learn about what
sort of research is going on around campus, as well as for research
groups to attract potential UROPs.

If you have a UROP or other lab on campus that you think would be a
good stop on the tour, please let me know. In the past, we've shown
off stops in the media lab, the AI lab, and MIT athena. I've sent out
mail to contacts for past sites, but could always use more suggestions.

As I mentioned above, the date we've scheduled for this year's tour is
Thursday, September 4th, which is during the first week of
classes. The tours run from about 7 pm to 10 pm. Afterward, we hope
to have food and a guest speaker in 6-120. Tell people to meet at
6:45pm in Lobby 7 we will split up into groups and depart by 7pm.

We need volunteers for the following:

1. Leading groups of students around to demo sites.
2. Designing posters and postering campus the week before.
3. Food shopping and planning for snacks afterwards in 6-120.

Since you have already been suckered into helping by my presumptuous
use of past tense above, send me email letting me know exactly how you
would like to help.

Thanks,

Darrin Jewell <jewell@mit.edu>
