SIPB computer tours will be on Thursday, September 9 (that's during the first week of classes). Nemo, lgdean, and I are organizing tours and you would like to help us, because you are a kind and wonderful individual. The tour is aimed at new MIT students, to give them an inside look at the interesting uses of computers in various labs and groups around campus. It's a good opportunity both for students to learn about what sort of research is going on around campus, as well as for research groups to attract potential UROPs. If you have a UROP or other lab on campus that you think would be a good stop on the tour, please let us know. In the past, we've shown off stops in the media lab, the AI lab, LCS, and Athena. We've sent out mail to contacts for past sites, but could always use more suggestions. As I mentioned above, the date we've scheduled for this year's tour is Thursday, September 9th. The tours run from about 7 pm to 10 pm. Afterward, we will have food and speaker Jeff Schiller in 6-120. Tell people to meet at 6:45pm in Lobby 7; we will split up into groups and depart by 7pm. We need volunteers for the following: - Leading groups of students around to demo sites. - Postering campus the week before.* ...and now is the perfect time to tell us how you want to help! Geoff *I blatantly copied this email from last year's, and we've been planning to use the poster design from last year. If, however, someone is interested in creating a new design, we probably won't object.
