HKN class evaluation
I have added a link to the HKN class evaluation on the navigation menu of our class website.
A student representative from HKN will come to class this coming Monday at 9.15am to talk about the class evaluation.
Since the evaluation this year is done online:
1) I would like to encourage all of you to bring your laptops in class this coming Monday to fill in the class survey while you can ask questions to the HKN representative.
2) If you cannot attend class, I would like to strongly encourage you to still evaluate the class from home using the link I have added on the menu bar on the class website (you will need your MIT certificate to log in, the link will shortly become active and will stay active until December 16, 2007).
Thanks
Luca Daniel

Teaching Assistant Position for MechE Course 2.086
We will be offering the course 2.086 Numerical Computation for Mechanical Engineers for the first time in Spring 2008. The course description is attached below. We are looking for an inaugural TA, the responsibilities of whom shall be (i) developing course materials (exercises, projects,...), (ii) co-supervising/teaching (with faculty) the laboratory, and (iii) grading homeworks (probably with the help of a hired grader). For Spring '08 the enrollment will be limited to 20 students.
Candidates should be well versed in both matlab and numerical methods.
Please contact Professor Tony Patera at patera@mit.edu.
Course Description: Introduction to programming concepts
including variable types, data structures, flow control. Numerical
methods relevant to MechE including approximation (interpolation,
statistical regression); integration; solution of linear and
nonlinear equations, eigenproblems, ordinary differential
equations, partial differential equations; optimization.
Deterministic and probabilistic methods. Examples from MechE
including lumped and continuum models from solid and fluid
mechanics, heat transfer, and acoustics; dynamics and control;
design and manufacturing. Assignments requiring MATLAB
programming.
