Best of luck in the future!
Dear Students,
A lot of you took the final. I was impressed with the sophistication of your answers. The moral of the final was that even writers for the New York Times can't shift their mentality from a cost-based pricing approach when there seems quite an obvious case for value-based pricing for iPad applications. Further, if the writers of the New York Times can't shift from a cost-based pricing mentality then application developers really need to worry about their competitors' future pricing decisions given that Apple has designed a storefront that rewards firms for maximizing downloads.
Many of you have asked for my future whereabouts. I gather that since the departure of Mark Ritson, people assume that Sloan Marketing Professors with odd accents are apt to disappear. However, I can assure you that I will be around Sloan for the foreseeable future (at least to 2015). I will, however, be moved into a new office (E62-533) over the summer which I am assured will be appropriately palatial and even may have seating. I only teach pricing, and I (along with Cristina) will be teaching it again in H2 of the Spring Semester in 2011.
I look forward to hearing about your future pricing successes!
Best Wishes
CT
PS Also, just in case you hadn't had enough pricing surveys I wanted to mention a pricing survey that I am running with a colleague at LBS

If you could spare the time that would be wonderful.
PS2. I have unfortunately hit capacity and have no more room for students in terms of supervising independent studies (evidently I price to low). I do, however, have a few slots open to supervise master theses should anyone be tempted in that direction.

Final Week of Pricing
Just a few pointers about our final week.
Monday (May 10) Class structure:
- Roadmap to pricing: A summary of the class, and some challenges to conventional notions about pricing
- Evaluations (after which people who are not taking the exam should feel free to leave)
- Q&A with Professor Tucker about the final exam on Wednesday.
Wednesday (May 12) Class is our 1 hour and 20 minute (Optional) Final.
- This is an open-book final
- You should complete this using your laptops as there will be some Excel work. Please email you final answers to Christina.
Feedback:
For those of who used your group presentation as a means of collecting pricing data about a product that you will actually need to make a pricing decision on soon, I have set aside some time next Thursday to give you a chance for feedback. You are welcome to choose a 10-minute slot using the link below where I would be happy to tell you about what I think you should do next, and also to discuss concerns about how reliable the data are for guiding pricing decisions.

Corrections to price elasticities document
I hope you are having a wonderful weekend.
Some eagle-eyed students noticed some potential confusing typos in the price elasticities document that I emailed out. I have now corrected them.
So you don't get confused, I suggest you print out a new copy:
