This subject is an introduction to freight transportation systems and analysis. We will cover the fundamental analytic tools, approaches, and techniques used in the design, procurement, management, and operation of freight transportation from both the shipper and carrier perspectives. The material is taught from a managerial perspective, with an emphasis on quantitative analysis. We place a strong emphasis on the development and use of fundamental models to illustrate the underlying concepts involved in the movement of freight. This subject is taught in an active learning format that includes lectures, guest speakers, in-class exercises, and case study discussion.
