Project deliverables and evaluations

By start of class tomorrow each team project manager needs to provide me with:
-- A hard copy of project report in AIAA conference paper style, not more than 15-20 pages.
-- An electronic copy of project report and presentation by email.
-- A copy of all electronic materials (codes, data etc), e.g. as a Dropbox link to a zip file, on a CD or DVD etc.
-- A statement in both hard copy and electronic form describing the contributions of each team member to the project.

By the end of tomorrow everyone in the class needs to provide me with an evaluation of every other member of their team on a confidential basis. This should consist of a 2-3 sentence evaluation of the performance and contribution of each team member. Please provide these evaluations in ranked order with greatest contributor first.

Teams will be given an overall project grade and then individual grades will be based on this with an adjustment (in cases where this is appropriate) qualitatively informed by peer evaluations and the project areas that the team member contributed to. Significance will not be attached to the rankings beyond the text evaluations except where there are clear patterns of exceptional differential contribution.

Aim for presentations tomorrow to be 20-25 minutes in duration, ideally involving all team members.

Final problem set issued: 28 November
Final group discussion: Tuesday 4 December (45 minute slots).
Final oral exam: Friday 7 December (30 minute slots).
Final project presentations and delivery of final project report and supporting materials: Wednesday 12 December

No exam tomorrow

As MIT has just announced it will be closed tomorrow, there will not be an in-class exam tomorrow.

I am replacing this with a take-home exam. Instructions as follows:

-- This is a take-home exam, which replaces in-class exam #2 for 16.511 due to severe weather anticipated for 10/29/12.
-- This exam is subject to MIT’s academic integrity policies.
-- You must complete this exam in one continuous sitting.
-- The time limit is 2 hours starting when you first read the questions.
-- No communicating with other people during this period.
-- No reference material of any kind may be used once you have started.
-- Calculators may be used.
-- Write in pen and cross-out mistakes on US letter paper.
-- The exam has two questions, worth 20 points in total.
-- The approximate weighting of questions/parts is shown in brackets.
-- Staple your solutions to a printout of this question paper.
-- You must deliver your solutions with the question paper to Melanie Burliss in 
33-322 by 4pm on Tuesday 30 October.
-- Also note that: (i) Late submissions will score zero; (ii) Selective oral or written 
retakes may be used to verify the integrity of the exam.

The exam will be uploaded to Stellar shortly under materials/assignments. Do not access it until you are ready to begin.
