Midterm grades

We will use your raw midterm score in calculating final grades, but if we were to give grades solely based on the midterm, below are the letter grades and equivalent scores we would have used, which may be helpful to you in terms of thinking about your performance. Also, note that the midterm is only worth 25% of the final grade, so you can still do well in the class even if you did less than perfectly in the midterm! Let us know if you have any questions!

95 and above: A
80--94: A-
70--79: B+
60--69: B
50--59: B-
40--49: C+
30--39: C

Midterm Logistics

The midterm exam will take place on October 15th during the regular class time (we will start sharply at 3:35PM so please make sure you are on time). Please note that the exam is closed notes and closed books. You can use a simple calculator that can do basic math operations (e.g. addition, multiplication, subtraction, division), but no fancy graphing calculators, mini-computers, smart phones, or any other machine that can store notes.

We have posted last year's midterm on the website to give you a sense of the sort of questions that may come up, and will post the solutions in a few days time. Please closely review the material we covered up until the lecture on Wednesday (10/10), including the lecture slides and the required readings listed on the syllabus for this material. Recitation on Friday (10/12) will be a review for the midterm.
