5.112  Principles of Chemical Science

Your chemistry grades should be made available via WEBSIS by December 27th.  None of the chemistry staff will be able to give you your grade via email.

If you are a freshman, your grade will be a “P” for pass or there will be no credit (if you did not pass the class). To find out your hidden grade, you must meet with your freshmen advisor during IAP. This is an opportunity to review your term with your advisor.

 

If you are an upperclassman, your letter grade will be seen on WEBSIS.

 

If you would like to see your final exam in chemistry, you will need to make an appointment with Patti Christie (patti@mit.edu) starting Monday January 30th. You will have until Friday February 9^th to see your exam.

 

Enjoy your break from MIT.

The final exam will not ask you to name individuals associated with the important scientific achievements that we covered in the first few lectures of the course. 
The final exam does not include a problem, such as those on which you worked during the first week of the course, that solely tests stoichiometry.

Dear members of the 5.112 class:
We are encouraging you to fill out the course evaluations (which can be done before 12 noon on Friday December 16th) by offering you rewards:
If we get a 70 % response rate - one of the problems from the end of term problems will be on the exam
If we get a 80 % response rate + two of the problems from the end of term problems will be on the exam
If we get a 90 % response rate- + 1 problem from the HW on problem set 10

Please note that we are not able to see what you write in your subject evaluations, only that a certain percentage has responded.

As of 10 am, there have been 34% response rate, no rewards yet.

I had a request for more reading material on a few topics that are not covered as thoroughly in the text as I covered them in class.  Under the topic Assignments and then General, is a pdf of a few pages from Principles of Modern Chemistry by Oxtoby, Gillis and Nachtrieb.
