Instructor: Andrea S Walsh TA: Stephen Brophy
Lecture:
MW 3:30-5
(4-370)
Information: Introduction to Media Studies is designed for students who have
grown up in a rapidly changing global multimedia environment and
want to become more literate and critical consumers and producers
of culture. Through an interdisciplinary comparative and historical
lens, the course defines "media" broadly as including
oral, print, theatrical, photographic, broadcast, cinematic, and
digital cultural forms and practices. The course looks at the
nature of mediated communication, the functions of media, the
history of transformations in media and the institutions that help
define media's place in society. Announcements
SOME WEBSITE CHANGES
I wanted to let you know that I've changed a few things on
the website to make it more accessible for students. As before, go
to the "Materials" section to find the course schedule
and readings (some additional readings will also be posted for
later dates). At the top of the "Materials" section,
I've added two new topics:" "General Course
Info" and "Assignments" so that students can locate
this material more easily. (I hadn't posted the Essay 1
assignment I distributed in class--so I have posted it if anyone
needs a copy.)Because of Stellar technical problems with the
"Homework" section of the site, I've eliminated
"Homework" from the navigation bar to avoid
confusion. Andrea Walsh Announced on 17 September 2003 5:45 p.m. by Andrea Walsh
