New Course 6 subject

I mentioned during the final lecture that starting next fall Course 6 would be offering a new subject.    Here is some more information about it.

6.S04 is a programming subject that will be piloted in Fall 2015. Course VI students can use 6.S04 as a substitute for 6.02 or 6.03. There will be limited enrollment in 6.S04 for Fall 2015 and it is currently restricted to Course VI majors. If you are interested in taking 6.S04, please register for the class. There will be a lottery before the first scheduled meeting of the class and all students who registered will be informed of the result. Below is the catalog description of 6.S04 followed by a short description of course philosophy. Contact Srini Devadas (devadas@mit.edu) if you have questions. 6.S04 Special Subject: Fundamentals of Programming (New) Prereq: 6.0001 or 6.01 U(Fall, Spring) 4-4-4 Institute LAB Introduces fundamental concepts of programming. Designed to develop skills in applying basic methods from programming languages to abstract problems. Topics include programming and Python basics, computational concepts, software engineering, algorithmic techniques, data types, and recursion and tail recursion. Lab component will consist of software design, construction and implementation of design.

Subject Evaluation

I just checked, and only 35% of you have so far done a course evaluation.  It would be great if more of you respond.  If we get up to 70% by the time the evaluation closes (9AM tomorrow, Monday), we will bring donuts for all to the final.

Practice problems on statistical significance have been posted, in addition to the solution to the K-means problem from Recitation 4. The k-means document also includes some thought exercises. The slides from the final exam review session will also be available soon.
