Fall 2017

Instructor: Christina Chase

TAs: Ann K McInroy, Justin D Tunis

Lecture:  TR EVE (7-9 PM)  (32-141)

Information:

Entrepreneurship in Engineering is an introductory project-based entrepreneurship class designed to give students the ability to explore the different aspects of what it means to be entrepreneurial and learn the tools and frameworks needed to successfully go from concept to company.

Students will:
- Explore the various aspects of what entrepreneurship can look like
- Understand the mindset of an entrepreneur
- Learn about methods, frameworks and tools for discovery, validation, design and development
- Learn where to start and what to think about when creating a new venture
- Gain exposure to various aspects of entrepreneurship from product to team to legal to fundraising
- Learn about obstacles that may threaten success
- Be introduced to entrepreneurship resources at MIT

Learn hands-on how to think about bringing an idea to fruition, with exposure to those who have done it at MIT and in the surrounding community. Although we will cover the basics of new venture creation, you do not need to have an existing idea or project that you are working on.

Even if you’re not ready for a start-up, this course is designed to provide you insights from others who have taken entrepreneurial paths and insights into their experiences, beyond media portrayals, and critical decision points they encountered along the way.

Class Tonight and an Etiquette Reminder

Hi all,
We wanted to remind you all that the first round of pitches is quickly approaching (in class on Tuesday, Nov. 14). To prepare for this, tonight's lecture with Michael Skok will be extremely valuable, so please make every effort to come to class this evening.

Additionally, we wanted to point out that all of our speakers are taking time out of extremely busy schedules to come speak with us, and it is important to give them the respect they deserve. As an etiquette reminder, we expect that (unless you speak with us beforehand), students stay for the entire class period, laptops are down, and that we are generally engaged (as the syllabus states, participation is a part of your grade!). We will also try to be end class at 8:55 in the future to honor 'MIT time'.

Please try to make an effort to make our speakers feel appreciated- it can be tough to be at the front :)

Thanks,
-EIE Team
