TA: Sean Sweat

Lecture:  TR 10:30-12:00  (5-134)

Description:

Problem-motivated introduction to methods, models, and tools for the analysis and design of transportation networks including their planning, operations, and control.  Capacity of critical elements of transportation networks.  Traffic flows and deterministic and probabilistic delay models.  Formulation of optimization models for planning and scheduling of freight, transit, and airline systems and their solution using software packages.  User- and system-optimal traffic assignment.  Control of traffic flows on highways, urban grids, and airspace.

PS6 Graded

PS6 is graded and ready to be picked up.

Average = 97
stDev = 7

Very good grades, but a few concerns:

2b
As q approaches infinity, x1 does not EQUAL 100% of q, but APPROACHES it

2e
Present data better.  Do not show 6 decimal places.  Do not center numbers.

4a
Effective Green Times of 23.3333 & 46.6666 are silly.  Use 23 and 47.  We are real world engineers, not theoretical physicists.  You will find DRASTICALLY different answers if you use reasonable numbers.  As such, I did not count off if you used the silly numbers because you had the methodological idea, but next time apply common sense as well by asking the question: What is practical to the real world?

The delay is not measured in hours.  It is in vehicle-hours.  Units are critical.

5a
Offering costs to the hundredths of a penny is not at all helpful.

5b
BE BRIEF.  There is no reason to say in 200 words what you can say in 20.
