9.357  Spec Topics in Vision Science

Fall 2007

Professor: Edward H Adelson

In charge of class website: Lavanya Sharan

Lecture:  TR 2-3.30  (46-4115)

Special Topics in Vision:

Special Topics in Vision, 9.357, will be on the perception of surface shape, emphasizing shape from shading and shape from line drawings. These are hard problems that remain poorly understood. We will NOT cover the "easier"
problems of shape from motion, stereo, texture, and focus, and won't discuss object or scene recognition. The point is to struggle with important problems that have seen frustratingly little progress in the last 20 years, but which might be ripe for progress today. If that sounds like fun, please come to our first meeting on Thurs  Sept 13. Emphasis is computational. We'll cover material from computer vision, human vision, and computer graphics.
