6.012  Microelectronic Devices and Circuits

Fall 2012

Faculty: Clifton G Fonstad, Jing Kong

TAs: Alan D Logan, Omair Irfan Saadat

Lecture:  TR11  (4-237)

What's happening this semester, and where to find things.:

With Prof. Fonstad lecturing, 6.012 will differ somewhat from recent semesters which have tended to focus exclusively on traditional MOS field effect transistors (MOSFETs) and circuits.   In addition to those topics, this semester we will learn as well about light emitting diodes (LEDs), semiconductor photodetectors and solar cells, charge-coupled imagers (CCDs), fully-depleted MOSFETs, and bipolar junction transistors (BJTs).  We will also develop circuit models for BJTs,  for MOSFETs operating sub-threshold, and for fully-depleted MOSFETs, and we will discuss circuit applications of these devices.

The lecture slides and all of the handouts will be available online under "Materials" to the left, and paper copies of most items will be available for pick-up outside the course office, 13-3058.

The text book, "Microelectronic Devices and Circuits" by Clifton G. Fonstad, Jr., is available on line at no charge and can be downloaded at:  http://dspace.mit.edu/handle/1721.1/34219 .  Paperback copies can be purchased from MIT CopyTech in Room 11-004.

Grades; Finals and Design Problems

The finals have been graded and we have completed assigning grades.  I will be posting the grades with the Registrar shortly after I arrive in San Francisco about 4 pm Cambridge time (I am writing this at the boarding gate).

You will be able to pick up your design problem and final exam at my office, 13-3058, after the New Year.  My secretary was not in yesterday so I did not get to coordinate the process with her, so please be patient.  I know we told some of you that the design problems would be available today, but they are not.

Crib Sheets for Final

Everyone who has completed a 6.012 course evaluation on-line can bring up to three sheets of paper with writing on up to two sides each, to the final (nominally your two sheets from Exams 1 and 2, plus a new additional sheet).  How do we know if you have done the evaluation?  We don't, but you will know...  And so will Santa Claus, so be good and do it.

Recitation Wednesday, 12/12/12 (last time this century - be there)

For tomorrow's recitation, Prof. Kong plans to go over part of Fall 2009's final exam. It will be helpful if you take a look at it before hand.  Please either print it out or bring your laptop so you can look at the problem during the class.
