Thanks for a great semester!

Hi Folks,

Thanks for a great semester! For those of you who are looking for your grades, we can't send them out over email. But, as Tony noted, if you are still on campus you can pick up your exam from Laura Kampas in Rm 3-354. Your final grade should be posted on websis. Have a great summer!

Office Hours Today: 3-237, 11am-1pm

Folks,

1) As I am still recovering from the flu (trust me, you don't want it), Tony and Sungyon have graciously offered to cover my office hours today from 11am-1pm. Office hours will be held in the normal TA office hour room, 3-237.

2) I received feedback that the "practice problems / solutions" last week were very helpful, but that we ran out of copies for the folks who arrived late. I'll post a PDF of the problems on stellar within the half hour. You can also find many useful problems within the 2.001 roadmap, also on stellar.

Best of luck studying for the final, and thanks for your feedback!

Words of Wisdom for the Final Exam

Hi Folks! Here are a few tips for the final exam:

(1) There will be only four problems instead of five (after working though it we decided five was too long).

(2) You would be well-advised to be extremely comfortable with problems that involve combined loadings (e.g. pressure vessels + torsion, bending + axial loading, bending + torsion ... )

(3) I received the following most excellent request during office hours: "Can we sacrifice one page of our cheat sheet and bring a ball of play-doh instead (in case there are 3D problems)?" YES! I have decided to allow this. If you would like to bring a ball of play-doh (or modeling clay or the moral equivalent) you may sacrifice one of your sheets and bring a ball of clay no larger than a baseball.

(4) The exam is challenging! So:

(a) Don't panic! We know that the exam is challenging and we will bear that in mind when we grade it.

(b) Use your time wisely! If you get stuck on a problem, move on and come back to it later. Do not let yourself get hung up on one question at the expense of the rest of the exam.

(5) We will be checking the forum this weekend so if you have any last minute questions, feel free to post them there.

Happy studying and see you all on Tuesday!
