Much appreciation for a fantastic set of proposal outlines and patient collegiality

Dear Students,

I did not want another day to pass before thanking you for your patience and collegiality yesterday.  Some of you are not registered students but
you gave your time and attention, Tim stayed up until the middle of the night to watch via skype, and some of you (Eppa, Sankalp, Karen, Aja, Nick, Micah, Andrew and Raquel and our visitor from Colombia) were simply heroic staying to the very end of what was the longest this class has ever been in 15 years.
Thank you for being so attentive, engaged and finally for showing how much you have learned this semester.  Terrific work.

I am sure you are looking forward to the end of classes and the holidays.  Enjoy.

Hi everyone,

Welcome to the last week of the course. We have three quick announcements to share:

Second, course evaluations are now live. As with all of your classes, please complete this and be as open and honest as possible. They are a valuable learning opportunity for the teaching staff

Third, please let us know if you are attending the workshop on Digital Text Analysis this Wednesday (12/4) at 6PM. As of now, Alan and Nick have confirmed attendance

Let us know if you have any questions,

Assignment For Next Class + Final Assigment

Hi everyone,

We have two announcements about upcoming assignments

1) For next class, Please prepare to present the paper listed next to your name (below). In class, we will work in reverse alphabetical order. When you prepare for this week, please review the advice on the documents (September 13) on refereeing papers. For this week, let’s up the game a little and instead of asking you what else could be done to push this research, prepare to describe a follow up study that would elaborate or challenge the findings of this paper. And, give careful attention to the theoretical concepts, trying to create room for critique or elaboration.

Sankalp - Eigen
Aja - Rissing and Castilla
Raquel - Fernandez-Mateo
Tim - Foster, Rhetsky, Evans
Andrew - Padovic & Ely
Micah - Goldin & Rouse
Eppa - Hoffman, 2019
Karen- Ranganathan, 2018
Nick - Fernandez, 2001
Alan - Salganik, Dodds, Watts

2) The final assignment details have been posted in their own section on Stellar. Sample slides from Christine Riordan and other final proposals are also on stellar.

Let us know if you have questions,
Susan and Ethan
