One last reminder

Dear 6170 Students,

One final reminder to give us an evaluation for the course. Here is the link. The deadline is 9:00am on Monday morning.

We know it's a hassle, but your effort really helps improve the course. We read comments very carefully, and we regularly make changes based on student feedback. For example, this term we increased the number of units, decreased the workload, and spread the backend coding assignments over a much longer period of time---all largely in response to suggestions from students.

We'd also be delighted to receive comments by email or in person---just get in touch.

Congrats to all of you for your great work, and thank you for being such a wonderful class. This was such a fun term and your enthusiastic engagement in our lectures and in all parts of the class were really appreciated.

Have a great break,

Daniel Jackson and Arvind Satyanarayan

Tomorrow's class and a couple reminders

Dear 6.170 students,

A friendly reminder that you are all participating in the end-of-term 6.170 game show tomorrow. It will be a knockout-style tournament contest where teams face off each other answering questions. Prizes will also be given to the teams with the best web apps. It will be a fun way to celebrate the end of the term!

Also, please don't forget to submit your last assignment for the class, the reflection document, due tomorrow at noon. Subject evaluations are also open so please take the time to let us know your thoughts and constructive feedback.

Congrats for finishing up the term and for building some very impressive web apps! See you all tomorrow

Grades for MVP out

Just sent out grades and feedback for the Revised Design and MVP.

I mistakenly resent the PoC grades titled under MVP so ignore that email and the correct one should have just been sent. Sorry for the confusion.

If there are any problems, please let me know.

Final presentations on Monday and Trivia Game Show on Wednesday

Dear 6170 students,

We are fast approaching our last week in the term.

On Monday, we will have the final presentations of your finished products. The order of the presentations is here. The staff is looking forward to seeing what you all have built! Each team will only have 4 minutes to present (very strict cut-off at 4min), so I highly recommend practising and polishing your presentations beforehand. Do not waste time demonstrating features like ‘Create Account’. Rather, focus on demonstrating your core concepts (and have any accounts needed for that made beforehand).

On our final lecture on Wednesday, we are planning on having a fun game show in a knockout tournament style where teams will compete with each other. Prizes - and more importantly glory - await the winning team (no pun intended, I promise ) and students from the audience who answer missed questions. Prizes will also be given to the team with the best web app.

All the best of luck in this final stretch!

Final Project Updates

The final project document has been updated to clarify the deliverables expected for the MVP and Finished Product milestones. We had previously intended for the Implementation Milestone Guidelines to also apply to the PoC, but due to a mistake on our part the Guidelines had contained additional deliverables that were not directly listed under the deliverables for the PoC in the main
document. We apologize for this error – teams who missed the additional requirements will not be penalized for the PoC, but note that they will be required for the remaining milestones.

The deadline for the MVP has also been adjusted slightly - We are still expecting teams to have a demo of their app ready for the next mentor check-in, but the written deliverables will now be due on Wednesday.
