On-line subject evaluations
If you can find the time, we would appreciate it if you can
complete an on-line subject evaluation for 1.013. On-line
evaluations are available at
http://web.mit.edu/subjectevaluation
.
You have until Monday, May 21 at 9 AM to complete surveys. I
realize we have asked you to complete surveys already, but the
survey materials are a big help in the ABET accreditation process
which is underway this year and next. Thanks for your
assistance.

New data for bridge hydrology
A new DEM (digital elevation model--see
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_elevation_model) for
the site in Ghana (courtesy of Tzipora and Joann) has
been made available along with other GIS files. Look for the
link to 'Ghana GIS files' under 'Bridge design' on
the 'Materials' page. As I indicated to some students
today, you can divy up the work between groups if you would like to
work on improving the topographic data and refining the
analysis. Processing the DEM will require working with GIS
software--a useful tool to learn!

Transportation to FE exam
Good news! The department will cover the cost of bus
travel to the FE exam. You're on your own as far as
getting back. I need an accurate head count so if you were
not in class today and will want transportation to the FE, please
email me. We also need a volunteer to get the paperwork from
Pat Dixon prior to Saturday and then turn it over to the bus driver
on Saturday morning. Please let me know if you would be
willing to handle that minor amount of paperwork.
