LIGO Lab Tour

As mentioned in class yesterday one of the areas that interests me is control in basic science experimentation. One of the efforts that I am involved in is the LIGO laboratory at MIT and can show interested students the tools used and some unique controls problems.

For more information on LIGO instumentation: https://www.advancedligo.mit.edu/
See subsystems on the side (seismic isolation, interferometer control, pre-stabilized laser and data acquisition might be interesting)

Contact me individually if interested.

EM levitator students

You should read the chapter titled 'Nonlinear Systems' (chapter 6) in James K. Roberge's textbook, which was posted in the materials page.  Of particular interest is section 6.2.3

Correct to Problem 4A

All,

Correction thanks to Kuan-Yu Lin, expression in 4A should be
y(t) = A(K_0)( 1 - e^{\lambda(K_0)t}) note the A(K_0) term.

Much appreciated,
Jacob
