Readings for May 9 and 11

Hi Everyone,

On Tuesday, we will have a session on the global implications of oil price changes, which was the topic preferred by the class in the poll a few days ago.

I posted three readings to organize the discussion. One is an academic article published in 2016 in the JEP that gives an overview of the market over the past forty years. The second is a one-page article by IMF experts with current analysis on the shale oil threat. The third is the most recent slide-show on energy by the experts at the the FRB Dallas. In class, we will discuss how fluctuations in commodity prices affect BOTH exporting and importing countries using the tools we covered earlier in the semester.

On Thursday, we will spend some of the time on a review of the class and some on the current global outlook. No new readings are assigned. Instead, please use the time to start reviewing the earlier material and preparing for the final exam on Tuesday, May 16.

Regards

Athanasios
