feedback and final paper

Dear quanta,

It has been a pleasure teaching you this semester, and I hope you have also enjoyed the class.

As a reminder your final paper is due tomorrow by midnight. You can submit it online at this link.

I have two requests.
1. If you attended talks but didn't turn in a paper feedback form, can you please either give me or Anand a paper copy later, or email me your comments for the speakers? Whatever you send me I will pass on to the speaker in anonymized form.

2. We also would love to hear your opinion about the class overall! Thanks to the 1/3 or so of you who have responded. For everyone else, the deadline is 9am Monday May 22 (so effectively Sunday night...). One question I am particularly interested in getting everyone's answer to is the question of topics: which topics do you think should be covered more or less? What is missing from the class? Anand and I have our opinions of this, but we would love to hear yours.

thanks, and happy writing,
aram

paper formatting

Dear class,

There were some questions about paper formatting since it is not obvious how to combine the requests for 11pt and two-column. First, let me say that the formatting guidelines are not strict and you can use whatever you think looks best. (Mostly I hope you don't use double spacing, huge margins or omit titles from the bibliography.)

However, the way to get two-column, 11pt, PRA style is
\documentclass[pra,11pt,twocolumn,tightenlines,longbibliography]{revtex4-1}

If you prefer, then you can also do:
\documentclass[11pt]{article}
\usepackage[margin=1in]{geometry}

Of course let me or Anand know if you have any questions or issues with this.

Office hours tomorrow moved to 2:30-3:30

Dear quanta,

Since there is a thesis defense tomorrow at 4pm, I'm moving my office hours to 2:30-3:30. If the new time doesn't work for you, please email me and I'd be happy to meet with you later on Thursday or Friday.

pset 5 update

Dear quanta,

We fixed some small typos in problem 3 (e.g. R is a subset of X x Y, not a member of it) and added a hint to 1b: recall that there is a N^{1/3}-query algorithm for the 2-to-1 collision problem.
