So we are well past our final class and we just want to thank you for joining us on on this learning journey. As you are well aware of now, Sustainable supply chain management is constantly evolving and an uphill battle. But the best thing about it is there is so much to be done and plenty of room for improvement. So we need eager and smart individuals such as yourselves attacking these challenges from every angle.

We thank you for taking the time to join us in this class and for such interesting and active participation! We look forward to staying in touch with all of you and hear where your career takes you.

On to the Final Class of Sustainable Supply Chains!

Hey Sustainable Supply Chainers!

You have almost finished the course on Sustainable Supply Chains. You have been on a journey through sustainable logistics, closed loop supply chains, environmental assessment, sustainable sourcing and beyond! You have been introduced to many of the major issues and tools based in sustainable supply chains. You are now ready to take these learnings and integrate them into your life and future work!

One final piece - this Wednesday please be prepared to give a 15-20 minute presentation on your poster (sample poster is on Stellar). Please also submit your full report to stellar along with your poster. For those who are auditing and will not present, please be prepared with questions and discussion to bring all we have learned full circle in these presentations. If you have any questions, let us know.

From Sustainable Sourcing to Sustainable Logistics

Hey Sustainable Supply Chainers!

Happy Weekend! I am so glad I finally got to meet all of you in person. Your great participation and sharp comments didn't fall short of what I have been told. I very much enjoyed discussing with you all and hope the topic is something you will think about frequently moving forward - as a professional and a consumer! I am in the process of uploading the slides so they will be up for review shortly.

Next week, Josue will be taking the discussion from upstream to downstream issues into sustainable logistics, a topic he has expert knowledge of. Depending on scheduling, either we will have an additional lecturer (Professor Ana Carvalho from Lisbon) for the second half, or Josue will be holding a wrap up of the course during that time. Either way please come prepared by reading the materials assigned in the syllabus and uploaded to the website and an attempt at the case study assignment.

All of your final papers and presentations will be due March 22. I have uploaded a sample slide (poster) document to the materials on that lecture date. It is just a template of one of my students who did a nice poster from a year ago, so feel free to adjust the titles of the sections etc - make it your own.

We will be providing comments on Deliverable #3 next week in preparation for your final projects as well as current grade standing.

From environmental assessment to sustainable sourcing

Hey Sustainable Supply Chainers!

Hope you enjoyed doing a deep dive into carbon footprinting! This is common practice in sustainable supply chain management and it is important to be comfortable with it. I also hope you saw the importance of these types of tools being used at scale to change industries such as logistics and transportation. We were lucky to have Abby Swaine from SmartWay out to discuss what the organization does and how it is making important changes.

Next week we will be moving from environmental assessment to sustainable sourcing upstream in the supply chain. Social and environmental impacts in deep tier suppliers are hard to address due to the highly opaque nature of supply chains. I am excited to get to discuss the issues faced and strategies to address these challenges with you next week!

There are several readings and two deliverables for next week. Deliverable #3 for your projects is due. One of the readings is an online case study (see syllabus for login instructions), be sure to do a review of the contents of the palm oil case study. Its a bit dated and some things have changed since the case, but the topic remains relevant and will be great for discussion. There are questions to be answered and submitted in advance of class.
