6.S079
I am going to teach 6.S079 next
semester. This is an AUS subject. In the
first 2/3 of the course we are going to cover mostly advanced
graphics methods: volumetric geometry representations, procedural
geometry, advanced shading/reflectance representations, 3D
scanning, 3D printing, finite element simulation for elastic
solids, dithering/sampling. In the last 1/3 of the course, we are
going to analyze recent papers (from Siggraph) that show how all
these things are combined in order to build systems for
computational fabrication. This is going to be a project class (60%
assignments + 40% project). No exams.
Please, let me know if you have any questions.

Projects
We have finished grading your projects. They all looked really
good. Congrats!
We have had a hard time picking the winners.
Here they are:
The first prize (and a trip to Siggraph 2014) goes to Arjun Narayanan and Lucas Smyk for "Real-time Fluid Simulation using Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics". The video can be found here.
The second prize (and GoPro cameras) goes to Siyao Xu and Wei Zhao for "Realistic Gemstones Rendering with Photon Mapping and Dispersive Ray Tracing". The video can be found here.
The third prize (and a GoPro camera) goes to Matthew Arbesfeld for "Kiwi: A Procedural Modeling Language". The link to the project demo can be found here.
The honorable mention (and subscriptions to Adobe Creative Cloud) goes to Allen Park and Lars Johnson for "Rolling Ball World". The video can be found here.
We also would like to acknowledge these projects:
"Machiner: A 3D Manufacturing Learning Game" by Jeff Chan (video).
"Virtual Character Real Time Motion Capture with Microsoft Kinect" by Manting Lao and Shiyang Liu (video).
"View-Dependent Texturing with Blend Shapes" by Kojo Acquah and Kaiying Liao.
