Dear lovely and supportive 15.818 Pricing students
Thanks to your votes, our beloved Professor Catherine Tucker won not only one, but TWO awards, the MIT Sloan Excellence in Teaching Award as well as the Jamieson Teaching Fellow award.
The award was presented Wednesday, May 15th at 11:30 am in the Roberts Family Forum (E62 Lobby) by Dean Schmittlein. When announcing the prize, Dean Schmittlein praised Professor Tucker for her “outstanding contribution to the MIT Sloan curriculum through the Pricing course she has developed. Not only did she author entirely new lecture materials, she also made use of very effective and innovative pedagogy that integrated simulations, games, and small-group discussions, as well as cutting-edge research. Catherine consistently receives high ratings for the course, which always has a significant waitlist."

The Final Week of Pricing
Hello Students,We have reached our final week of pricing. I have two reminders.
1) On Monday, we have our final class together. We will hear one team share their presentation with the entire class and then I will summarize some of the key points of the class and give you some reminders for the future.
2) On Wednesday, we have our in-class final price elasticity exercise. This is purely optional. It is really there to ensure that people who didn't get a chance to speak during the semester can still get a great grade, as it substitutes for the "spoken insight" part of the grade. I take the higher of the two grades for grading purposes, so doing it cannot hurt you. If you are wondering whether you should take it, email your TA to find out where you stand. There is absolutely no preparation needed for this exercise. Everything is open-book. The idea is that I give you a set of realistic facts and you have to sort through them and make a pricing recommendation within an hour. If you really want to prepare for it (and again, you really don't have to), you can look at the examples from past years which are up on Stellar alongside their answer keys. The crucial thing to remember is that life is far easier if you can use Excel and submit your recommendations electronically through Stellar, so you should bring a charged-up laptop to class on Wednesday.

Group Presentation: Submission instructions (Stellar) and Logistics reminder
Dear 15.818 Pricing Ninjas
Hope you having a great weekend and off to a great start with working on your pricing presentations.
To smoothen the process of gathering everyone’s Powerpoint presentations, we have decided to use Stellar for your power point submission. (Please do NOT email us your presentations!).
1. Instructions Stellar upload:
We have set up various entries under the “Homework” tab in Stellar, e.g. (“Group Presentation: Mon 6th May”, “Group Presentation: Wed 8th May” etc) and under each entry, there are further slots e.g. (“10:00AM - 11:00AM Presentation”, “11:00AM - 12:00PM Presentation”). Please submit your powerpoint slides according to the presentation timeslot you signed up for. E.g. If you are presenting at 1pm on Wednesday 8th May, then submit your powerpoint slide to:
“Group Presentation: Wed 8th May” -> “01:00PM - 02:00PM Presentation”
File Naming: “##_PricingProjectName.ppt”, where ## denotes your team number according to googledoc. In your presentations, please include names of all team members.
The DEADLINE for submission is 08:00AM of the day you present . No late submission will be allowed. Anyone in your group can submit.

Price-Fixing in Ebooks Case
Hello,I am looking forward to discussing the Ebooks Case with you tomorrow.
I just wanted to emphasize that this is a "strategy" case which is designed to make you think hard about how to deal with competitive threats to a pricing model. As such there is not much primary data analysis expected. Instead you should look at the price elasticities that are already calculated for you in the case. And focus on their interpretation.
