Information:
Welcome to the first installment of Dynamics and Control. The first half of the term will cover rigid body dynamics. We will model mechanical systems, identify kinematic relationships, and use the force-momentum formulation to solve for the resulting motion. We will limit our study to planar motion. The second half of the semester will delve into work-energy concepts, virtual displacements and virtual work, Lagrange's equations for systems of particles and rigid bodies in planar motion. Students will learn how to derive and linearize equations of motion, carry out stability analysis of mechanical systems, and study free and forced vibration of linear multi-degree of freedom models of mechanical systems.
The course text is "Fundamentals of Applied Dynamics" by
Professor James H. Williams, Jr. (ISBN 978-0-470-13385-9)
Announcements
Quiz 4 tomorrow (50-340)
