Information:
Welcome to the first installment of Dynamics and Control
(2.003).
The first half of the term consists of 2.03 and will cover rigid
body mechanics. We will model mechanical systems, identify
kinematic relationships, and use the force-momentum formulation to
derive equations governing the motion of systems. Our study
will be limited to planar (2-dimensional) cases.
The second half of the semester comprises 2.031. We will
cover work-energy principles, virtual displacement and virtual
work, Lagrange's equations for systems of particles and rigid
bodies in planar motion. We will show you how to derive and
linearize equations of motion, carry out stability analysis, and
study free and forced vibration of linear models of mechanical
systems.
The recommended course text is "Fundamentals of Applied
Dynamics" by Professor J. H. Williams Jr.

quiz 4
Dear Students,Please don't forget to come to quiz 4 that will take place on Tuesday at 9 AM at Johnson Arena. The quiz is designed to be solved in 1.5 hours, but we will let you work on the problems until 11 AM or so. Three handwritten double sided cheat sheets are allowed. No calculators or communication devices are permitted.
If you haven't done so yet, please take few minutes to provide evaluations for the class. Your feedback is very important for improving the class and is carefully reviewed by the department leadership every year.
It was a lot of fun working with you this term. Hope you have a great summer.

No recitation on Thursday (15/May) or Friday (16/May)
Dear class,There will be no recitation this week on Thursday (15/May) or Friday (16/May). Please take this time to study for exams or fill out instructor/TA evaluations.
Good luck on your finals,
Hussain
