(Image from ACM SIGACCESS Conference Instructor: Joshua B Tenenbaum TAs: Christopher Lawrence Baker, Amy Perfors Lecture: TR3.30-5 (NE20-461) Information: This course is an introduction to computational theories of human cognition. Drawing on formal models from classic and contemporary artificial intelligence, we will explore fundamental issues in human knowledge representation, inductive learning, and reasoning. What forms does our knowledge of the world take? What are the inductive principles that allow us to acquire new knowledge from the interaction of prior knowledge with observed data? What kinds of data must be available to human learners, and what kinds of innate knowledge (if any) must they have? AnnouncementsThanksgiving presentHi all,Upon further discussion, we decided to give you something else to be thankful for this weekend - problem set 4 is now due on WEDNESDAY Nov 30, not Monday Nov 28. Therefore rather than have a recitation on Monday, I'll be having on on Tuesday in 26-322 at 7pm - I won't prepare anything special but will answer questions about pset4, etc. That said, I'd also like to remind you that if you turn in
your pset after your latedays have been used up, it's an
automatic 30% reduction on your grade. So please don't do it!
Should be less of a problem now that it's due on Weds. Announced on 23 November 2005 9:12 a.m. by Amy Perfors Pset hardcopies and recitation infoHi everyone,Sorry for the # of announcements in this last week, but I think it's necessary. Two things this time: 1. If you haven't turned in a hardcopy to me of your pset3, please bring one to class on Tuesday. We are still having printing issues, so this will ensure we get them graded in a timely manner. (Still of course submit electronically so we have a time stamp). If you won't have turned it in by Tuesday, please bring it to class Thursday, etc. 2. I am trying to decide whether to hold a recitation this Thursday the 17th in addition to Monday the 21st on topics related to pset 4. The Monday recitation is guaranteed, but I'm uncertain if anyone will have engaged with pset4 enough by Thursday for the same one on Thursday to be worthwhile for either of us. Therefore PLEASE EMAIL ME right now if you WILL (not might, but *will*) go to the Thursday recitation if I have it, but would not go to the Monday recitation. Based on this, I'll announce during class on Tuesday if there will be a Thursday recitation or not. cheers Announced on 14 November 2005 1:52 p.m. by Amy Perfors Pset 4 released and other infoHi all,1. Problem set 4 has just been released. It is due at the end of the day on Monday, November 28th. 2. Problem set 3 is due at the end of the day today. A few notes on submitting it: (a) Please name your problem set username-ps3.doc or username-ps3.pdf. Any files should be named username-filename.m. (b) If at all possible, I ask that you submit a hardcopy as well as your email/online submission. (If you do give us a hardcopy, still submit email/online so I know the exact time of submission). I recognize this may be difficult given that it's due at midnight tonight, so this is by no means obligatory; but we have been having trouble with our printer lately and this will make our lives easier. If you do submit via email or online, I'd appreciate it if you take care not to submit excessively large documents: make sure any images are of a decent size, that you don't have excessive whitespace, etc. thanks all, Announced on 11 November 2005 11:25 a.m. by Amy Perfors Psets 2 and 3About pset 2:1. The solution set has been released. It is in the same
password-protected url as solution set 1 was. Your password 2. We aim to have your psets graded by Thursday or Friday. About pset3: 1. As Josh stated in class and as is on the FAQ, there is a new version of blog, 0.1.3. Please DO NOT use it; the syntax is slightly different and the files you are given will not work. You can still download 0.1.2 from the website, and also from my webpage at http://web.mit.edu/perfors/Public. Since the new version has some nice additional features, if you are planning to do your final project with BLOG, we suggest you use 0.1.3 for that.
