Fall 2006
Instructors: Arup K Chakraborty, John M Deutch
TAs: Sarah R Barkow, Frederick E. Bernardin, Jason Locasale
Lecture: MWF8.30-10 (34-101)
Subject Description:
This subject develops classical equilibrium and time dependent
statistical
mechanical concepts and supporting computer simulation methods
for
application to chemical and biological problems. Example of
applications include lattice models of binding, ionic and non-ionic
solutions, polymer and protein conformations, the hydrophobic
effect, and molecular motors.
Particular attention will be given to the complex biochemical and
biophysical processes underlying cell signaling (especially in
cells of the imune system), cell migration, and the structure and
dynamics of membranes.

CHANGE IN SCHEDULE FOR TAKE HOME FINAL
We believe that a small change in the schedule for the take home finalis advisable. We proposed to put the take home final on the web at
10:00 AM on Wednesday December 6 and have it due at
5:00 PM on December 13.
This shift of the proposed schedule by two days will allow
for the review session that Professor Chakraborty will give to
be
completed before the examination is distribued.
If this late change of schedule creates difficulties
for an individual, please see Professor Chakraborty or Deutch.
