Subject Description:
Chemical and physical properties of the cell and its building blocks. Structures of proteins and principles of catalysis. The chemistry of organic/inorganic cofactors required for chemical transformations within the cell. Basic principles of metabolism and regulation in pathways, including glycolysis, gluconeogenesis, fatty acid synthesis/degradation, pentose phosphate pathway, Krebs cycle and oxidative phosphorylation, DNA replication, and transcription and translation.

Blank Final Exams 2003-06 posted!
Since many of you requested final exams from previous years to study without answers given, please find the Final Exam from 2003 through 2006 in blank form on Stellar under 'Document Index/Past Exams'.
PLEASE NOTE: The posted blank final exams start at question #6 with Prof. Licht's part of the exam. Prof. Kemp's part of the final exam is not available in blank form on the web - therefore the first few pages don't show any text! Also, please consider the Final Exam 2006 as an additional practice test - the answers will be posted on the web shortly!Good luck on the final!

5.07 Final Exam - Material allowed, provided or needed!
1. You are allowed to bring TWELVE letter sheets of handwritten notes (front and back = 24 pages) to the final exam. The idea is that, ideally, you already have SIX pages from HE 3 and HE 4, which leaves you with SIX more pages available for material that has been covered in HE 1 and HE 2 as well as material covered after HE 4.

Exams from 2003 - 2005 including answerkey have been posted on the
course website under 'Document Index/Past Exams'. We
strongly recommend to practice these exams in additional
preparation for the final exam next Wednesday!
2. If necessary for the exam, you will be provided with a standard table displaying the genetic code. You don't have to copy the table from V & V onto your cheat sheets!
3. You will NOT be provided with an extra cheat sheet displaying the twenty natural amino acids. If you don't want to memorize them, you are strongly encouraged to put the structures, names, one- and three-letter codes, as well as the side-chain pKa-values (where applicable) on your handwritten cheat sheets!
4. You might need a SCIENTIFIC CALCULATOR during the final exam. Please bring a calculator along to the final individually, since calculators cannot be shared during the exam period!

FYI: Please Pick Up Outstanding 5.07 Problem Sets and Hour Exams!
If you don't have a chance to pick up the material tomorrow, they'll be handed to you on the day of 5.07 final exam on December 19 in Walker Memorial.
Any material that has not been picked up after the final exam will be handed over to the Chemistry Undergraduate Office and can be picked up there directly.
If you value the feedback given on the graded problem sets or hour exams for your preparation for the final exam, we encourage you to pick up any outstanding material tomorrow morning!
