HW10 Solution Correction

Dear Class,

On page 7 of the HW10 solutions, there is an error in Equation (1).  The equation should read:
   chi2_approx = chi2_best + (theta-theta_best)T * (2*JT*J) * (theta-theta_best)

Clarification from Office Hours

Dear Class,

In office hours this past Monday, I reminded you that the consistency check (as presented in lecture #29 on 21-Nov-2008) was gamma(nu/2, chi^2/2) / gamma(nu/2).  Furthermore, I mentioned that you can use the MATLAB built-in functions gammainc and gamma to compute the value of the consistency check.

The formula I wrote down in office hours (gamminc(argument1,argument2) / gamma(argument1)) is incorrect.  Please read the MATLAB help files on gammainc and gamma to determine what the correct formula is.

I apologize for the mistake.  Please email the TAs if you have any questions.
Mike
