4.240/11.328 Urban Design Skills
Fall 2009
Back Bay Fens
Instructor: Victor Eskinazi
TAs: Allison Nicole Albericci, Jota Samper, Aspasia Xypolia
Lecture:
F9-12
(10-485)
Recitation: W6-9
Information:
An introduction to methods of analyzing, evaluating and recording the urban environment based on field observation. The aim is to supplement existing courses that cover theory and history of city design and planning, and to better prepare students with no prior design background for the studio sequence, building skills fundamental to undertake a wide variety of urban design efforts.
The course is organized in a workshop/field survey format, supplemented by lectures and evening skill-developing sessions (recitations). Using the skills developed throughout the semester, students will work in groups to prepare comprehensive design proposals in Cambridge, that build on the relationship between urban design, stakeholder concerns, zoning regulations, environment and other forces that shape cities.

Happy Hour
It looks like that everyone is working vigorously on final papers. Will it be easier/more convinient for all to go for a happy hour UDS celebration on Thursday at 6.00 pm instead of tomorrow? Please let us know what you think and we will finalize the details.

MIA tonight
Due to an emergency, I will be arriving very late to recitation tonight. I'll drop by anyway to see if there are any groups working on their projects. At this point, I do not wish to make any comments on the design, only on presentation issues.
