Reminder to evaluate CSB.100/7.89 by Monday 9am
Hi there,
Thanks to those of you who have filled out the online course evaluation.
The web site indicates that two of you still have not done so, and a 100%
response rate would be most helpful to me and to the institute, so if
you have not done so already please connect to
http://web.mit.edu/subjectevaluation

Request for your feedback on course papers/topics
Hi all,
There is no formal written assignment this week, but it would be very helpful to me in understanding what worked / what didn't this year and in planning for future editions of this course if you could fill in and bring to class the "Feedback Request" document (posted under > Materials > Week 12), which asks for your input on which of the papers and topics discussed in the course are most/least worthwhile.
Thanks.
Cheers,
Chris

Background paper, written assignment posted
Hi all,
Please note that I have pasted a background paper (PoelWijke et al) related to this week's discussion on the course web site. This paper is optional, but may provide context that is helpful for thinking about the main papers. I have also posted a short written assignment related to this week's papers. A double-spaced hard-copy is due at the start of class Friday.
Enjoy the papers.
Cheers,
Chris

Papers for Friday
Hi All,
I just wanted to make sure it was clear that the Tringe et al. paper (posted since last week)
is the other paper that we will be discussing this Friday.
The plan is that we will spend the first ~2/3 of the class discussing:
1) the supplemental paper on the CRISPR system, and 2) the Andersson & Banfield paper on virus population dynamics, and then the last ~1/3 of class discussing the Tringe et al microbial communities paper.
A written assignment due next Friday 11/20 will be posted later this week.
Enjoy the papers.
Cheers,
Chris

Background reading plus written assignment posted
Hi all,
I have posted a review paper by Rodnina and Wintermeyer that provides
background for this week's papers (continuing on the theme of translation).
Also, the new written assignment (due Friday Oct 23 at start of class) has been posted.
Note that the due date of this assignment is quite close to the due date of the actual NSF fellowship. If you plan to apply, you need to identify a faculty sponor and it is highly recommended that you seek their advice on the proposal.
Have a good weekend.
Cheers,
Chris
