Last lab deadline extended

Dear Class

In order to better balance your first semester load by accommodating the Econ midterm, I am allowing a full two weeks to complete the final lab.

Enjoy the extra sleep, and use Stephen's revised version to finish up if you haven't already.

Prof Flaxman.

New version of Lab 7 posted

I just posted a new version of the lab that includes the edits I mentioned previously. It also clarifies the last step where you have to generate the random points layer, since that was not very clear.

Notes of Lab7

Hi Class,

Just a couple notes that we've noticed so far on lab 7 that you should be aware of:

-In part 2 step 1, you should look at the rasterized version of the built_points data layer (i.e. "built" or however you named it) to determine the area of prior development. Use this instead of the "parcels vector database," since that has not been clipped to the study area. The "COUNT" column in "built" tells you the number of cells, which is the same as the number of hectares in this case.

-In part 2 step 6, just use a density of 4 units per hectare (not acres)

A new version of the lab will be posted in the next day or so. Let me know if you have questions on this or anything else. I will have office hours wednesday 2-3pm in lab as usual. Sorry for the confusion,

Stephen

11.205 Syllabus Posted

I have reposted the class syllabus, with dates corrected to account for Columbus Day.  That week we will have a lecture during lab, and held in the 37-312 room.  Note that the class ends with a lecture Nov 2 (there is no lab that week).

Please be sure to read Steinitz and Ahern for discussion on Tuesday.
