Seminar on Social Network Analysis

For those of you interested in learning more about Social Networks, Lynn Wu, a PhD student working with me, will be presenting a paper tomorrow (Wednesday Nov 24) from 10-11:30am in room E62-587 on "Social Network Effects on Performance and Layoffs: Evidence From the Adoption of a Social Networking Tool".

She finds contrasting effects of information diversity and friendships. One boosts billable revenue and the other reduces lay-off probability. Can you guess which is which? You can get her paper here: http://bit.ly/en6zcm

Reading Guides and Assignment for Nov. 23 class

As I mentioned in class, the one-pager for tomorrow's class has been cancelled. However, there is a new required reading on the "Harnessing Digital Lens". Please see the reading guide (in the materials folder: http://bit.ly/fgPs30 ) for a link to the new reading. Also, note that the short reading on "Computation Social Science" can be a bit hard to find in the course pack, but it is in there, after the "Beyond Computation" reading and before "Diamonds in the Data Mine".
