Chemical and physical properties of the cell and its building blocks. Structures of proteins and principles of catalysis. The chemistry of organic/inorganic cofactors required for chemical transformations within the cell. Basic principles of metabolism and regulation in pathways, including glycolysis, gluconeogenesis, fatty acid synthesis/degradation, pentose phosphate pathway, Krebs cycle and oxidative phosphorylation. Results of the Final Exam
The results of the final exam and the answer key are now posted. You can pick up your exam from the Chem Ed Office (2-204).
We hope you had a great time studying biochemistry in 5.07. For those of you continuing in this field, we hope 5.07 gave you a stimulating and useful introduction to biological chemistry. For everyone else, we hope your experience in 5.07 remains among your fond memories at MIT.
Best wishes and a happy holidays season!

Appendix for the Final Exam
Many of you asked about the appendix for the Final Exam and what will be in it. I can tell you that it will certainly include everything you see in the appendix from the last year's final. The actual appendix for this year will be posted soon. Meanwhile, the solutions to the previous year's finals are posted. Check them out and bring any questions on Sunday.
Best,

Final Exam Info and other updates
The final exam for 5.07 will be Tuesday, Dec 14, 2010, 1:30-4:30pm in the Johnson track (2nd floor of Johnson/Z-center building, right above the ice rink). If you have a conflict with this time, or require extended time on exams (ie. time and a half), please contact me right away. The final covers material from the whole course, but with extra emphasis on the last part of the class (from fatty acid biosynthesis onwards).
We have scheduled the review session for the final exam on Sunday, Dec 12, from 2-4pm , in 56-114 and 56-162. The format will be similar to the last review session. We will discuss some sample problems, but mostly we will focus on answering your questions (bring them!).
A study guide and extra practice problems will be posted tomorrow. We will also post the finals from the last 2 years (without answers first) and then post the answers on Friday.
As tomorrow is the last lecture of the course, let me remind you once more to fill out the online evaluations. We really want to know what you think about 5.07. The link is : http://web.mit.edu/subjectevaluation/ .
Happy studying!
