no writing assignment this week - but assignment next week
Hi CSB.100/7.89 students,
I just wanted to clarify that there is NO written assignment due this Friday Oct 1.
An assignment related to the Hegreness/Weinrich papers was briefly posted to the
course web site but I have reconsidered and decided to give you the week off
from writing. However, please note that there will be an assignment due
NEXT Friday, Oct 8th, which will be an expanded version of the NSF proposal.
So if you have extra time I encourage you to continue thinking about and
researching your topic (your topic can be the same or different from the idea
submitted last Friday).
Cheers,
Chris

Notes on figures
Just a quick note for those discussion leaders who choose to
project figures from the papers.
First, remember to reserve a projector from Bio HQ (68-132).
Second, for the figures to project well they need to be fairly high resolution,
often higher resolution than is achieved by cut/paste at normal zoom levels.
In my experience, the easiest way to achieve this is to
open the PDF of the paper in Acrobat,
choose >View>Zoom and set the zoom level to at least 150%, then
use >Tools>Select & Zoom>Snapshot Tool to copy each figure
and paste into PowerPoint or Keynote, shrinking the image if necessary.
Cheers,
Chris
