Please remember to take a few minutes to fill out your course evaluations. It is particularly important for you TA's, as we all will be teaching again in the future, and very much appreciate your thoughful feedback.

Thanks for all your hard work, and have a Happy Holiday Season.

Recitation Tonight

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to give you all an overview of how we will proceed with the recitation this evening.

Everyone interested is encouraged to attend Anthony Townsend's lecture tonight from 5:30pm to 7:00pm. It will be held in the Media Lab, 6th floor. Otherwise 6pm-7pm is time for you to coordinate with your group and work together.

Beginning (promptly) at 7pm we will have a couple quick announcments. Then each of the TA's will give desk crits at your request. There is a sign up sheet with 15 minute sessions posted in between Allison and Alexis's desks. Please sign up. Keep in mind that you should seek out a number of different perspectives on your project; so if there is a TA that you haven't met with lately, please be sure to speak to them tonight.

Good luck and we'll see you all soon. Cheers,

the teaching team

Contemporary Housing Examples

Hi everyone,

Hope you're all enjoying the weekend.

As we discussed in class on Friday, some of the examples shown in the presentation felt a bit "dated" in style. It is important to note that although the examples may have left something to be desired aesthetically, the form and functioning of these types have been tested and refined over time, making them a good starting point for your projects.

However, for those of you who are interested in more contemporary interpretations (as well as examples of mixed used, and mixed typologies), I suggest checking out:

  • Stanley Saitowitz / Natoma Architects: http://www.saitowitz.com
  • David Baker + Partners Architects (specialty in low-income, and group housing): http://www.dbarchitect.com/
  • Pyatok Architects: http://www.pyatok.com/
  • And just for fun, Bjark Ingles Group (B.I.G.): http://www.big.dk/

Remember that our recitation is on TUESDAY this week. We'll meet in the computer lab (37-312) at 6:00pm, for a tutorial on AutoCAD techniques.

Cheers,

Allison, Alexis and Jae Seung
