A note on grading and letter grades
Dear All,
I received a plethora of emails about grading and letter grades. Here is a collective answer:
-Grading, both in terms of grading quizzes and especially in terms of mapping these into letter grades was VERY generous. 32% of the class received As, 50% Bs and 16%Cs.
-I will not announce the cutoffs for particular grades as inevitably someone will be close to the cutoff and will go nuts over it. But the grade distribution tells you that these were not high cutoffs.
-Final grades are final. There will be no further exams, essays, homeworks or anything else for further credit. Allowing such extra work would be unfair to the rest of the class and would diminish the value of the work that was done during the semester.
-Thank you for you kind words you had about the class. I hope to continue to see you next semester.
All the best,
Refet Gurkaynak

Thank you for a great semester
Dear Budding Macroeconomists,
Teaching a first class in any topic is usually a chore because
getting the students interested in the topic and motivated takes a
lot of effort. Not this time. I had a class of not only brilliant
and hardworking but also motivated and interested students.
Throughout the semester you pushed and prodded me for more
material, more depth, more rigor and more insight. That was very
exhilarating. It is my loss that many of you were not in my lecture
but I got to know many of you who were in the recitation-only track
via your emails and what was conveyed to me by the TAs.
I really enjoyed teaching this class. I have you to thank for that.
Thank you.
I would also like to thank the TAs of the class, Daniel, Luis,
Joaquin, Juan, and Sebeastian. This large class, which would
normally be a logistical nightmare, worked flawlessly owing to
their efforts and I did not have to worry about the learning of the
students who were not in my lecture thanks to their dedication. A
heartfelt thank you to you as well.
Lastly, I will not be teaching next semester but I will be at MIT
and I do hope that some of you will drop by just because you feel
like talking macroeconomics.
Thank you again for a great semester.
I wish you all a merry Christmas and a happy new year.
All the best,
Refet Gurkaynak

Quiz # 3 Results
Hi all,Quiz # 3 is almost all graded - we should have all the results uploaded onto the Stellar gradebook by lunchtime today.
As we have no more recitations, the procedure for handing back the exams and requesting regrades will be slightly different this time.
If you would like to inspect your exam, please come to E52-232 tonight (Friday, 12/16) between 7pm - 8pm.
To help us keep track of the exams, we will not let you take the exams with you tonight. But you can look over your exam in the room and I will be there to answer any questions that you might have.
If you would like a regrade, you can request it directly to me this evening. Please note that, as usual, we will regrade the entire exam, not just the individual question where you feel you deserve extra marks.
Best,
Daniel
