Quiz and PS6

Folks,

PS6 is slightly shorter, as you need some time to go through the quiz preparation. This PS is due in two weeks, on Nov 23. You are of course welcome to submit earlier, if you have a travel plan for Thanksgiving.
5.7 (orthonormal in C^n), 5.8 (L2 inner product), 5.9 (also L2 inner product), 5.16(aliasing)

Also, I have posted another zip file for earlier quiz problems. Some of them are in chapter 6 already, on modulations, which we do not require in this term.

PS5 and quiz 2

Quiz 2 will be a take home exam issued on November 16th, which is a Wednesday, and it should be due by the end of Thursday to prevent people from working on it too long. If you will be traveling or have a conflict around that time, you should let me know asap.

This is the last homework before the quiz, and it is due on November 9 in class.

Gallager 4.27(Fourier series and Fourier integral), 4.29 (degrees of freedom, which I will talk a little about on Monday), 4.30( which is the generalization of sampling that has a few parts I skipped in class), 4.32(orthogonal set which is a good preparation for next chapter), 4.35(aliasing).

In addition, 4.36 is a good way to see why I could drop the l.i.m. near the end of the lecture, and is not required, but is good as an exercise.

PS4

Due Nov 2, Wed.

Problems 4.3-4.10 are a good set of exercises for the basics of measures. The last 3 or them requires reading of section 4.9, which is the appendix. You are not required to write answers to these problems, but they are a good place to practice some proof writing.

Required: 4.2(energy equation), 4.11 (measurable functions, the minimum exercise for measurability), 4.17 (L1 integrals), 4.18 (L2 equivalence), 4.19(Orthogonal expansion), and 4.24 (continuity).
