Clarrification - Question 3 of pset 2

Hi all:

It has come to our attention that students may have used a variety of methods of population allocation to answer Question 3 in Pset 2. There are several possible ways to arrive at population estimates. Certain methods are more appropriate to a particular application. Additionally, every method has its own strengths and weaknesses. Please include in your response to Question 3 a statement about what method of population allocation you used. Ideally, this statement would also include a brief (1 sentence) explanation of the strengths/weaknesses/ assumptions of your chosen population allocation method. We hope this announcement helps clarify what we expect for Question 3.

Hints problem set #2

Reminders for Problem Set #2

1. Remember the units that you are using for area. We are going to grade based on the units we asked for.
2. In the part where you are geocoding there is an address which is technically in Manhattan even though geographically it exists in the Bronx. You do not need to match that address. The address is 108 W 228TH ST.
3. When you are geocoding and you lose the Review/Rematch screen you can always get it back by right>-clicking on the Geocoding Results in the table of contents. Selecting Data> Review/Rematch Addresses.
4. Remember when you there are only 5 CSO so when you find laundry mat density your legend might not need ranges – depends on how you set up your legend.
5. If you quote someone don’t forget to put a source.

Take pity on us...

Submission of  maps as PDFs is causing a few problems for the teaching staff (mainly because they uncompress when you print them and they store information about layers that are covered by other layers and thus become quickly bloated). It would make us super-happy if you exported your maps a JPEGs or PNGs and then put them into a word processing software of your choice. Please be kind to your friendly neighborhood teaching team and export you maps as JPEGs or PNGs (300 DPI is a good resolution).

Please take this poll!!!!!!!

Hi all:

11.205 is almost finished and 11.520 is about to begin. For the start of 11.520, it would be very helpful to have a realistic sense of how many people are planning to take it. That being said, the registration information does not really provide us with this information. This the case because as the drop date for 11.520 is well after the class starts. The official registration tally is often misleading beacuse some students are registered for the class, have no intention of taking it, but have not dropped it yet.
Given this fact, we would really appreciate it is you would let us know whether you intend to take 11.520 (we hope that you do but understand if you don't) so that we can better deal with course administration tasks.

Please fill out the this poll:  ( https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1WMpWTP7X0ENQm_O_v_bbey7nW-H1GuHVSEqzYtDpvwI/viewform).
