Some notes on Exam 2

The mean was about 87.58, while the standard deviation was 12.20. There were nineteen perfect scores, whereas the rest of the scores varied vastly.

I graded Problems 2 and 3, while Chiheon graded Problems 1 and 4, so please direct your questions accordingly.

For Problem 2, most people got it right. Any justification for the last part, however sketchy, got full credit. For Problem 3, you have to use sin(2X) = 2sin(X)cos(X). If you didn't, you lost points, depending on what value you got at the end. For the second part, I gave 3 + 3 = 6 to anyone who had gotten the TRUE or FALSE answer. However, this is a math class, and you have to back up your answer with some kind of argument. Therefore, I reserved 3 points for a right counterexample for the first (false) part and 3 points for some sort of justification for the second (true) part. It didn't have to be a formal proof, just a two-sentence justification would have sufficed.

Exam pickup + grades

The exams have been graded, and will be ready for pick-up from Professor Strang's office in E17 at 1 pm. If you can't pick them up today, email me after 2 pm to ask about your grade, if it helps you in deciding whether to drop the class. I apologize for the lateness in returning them.

We will send out a separate email explaining the grading rubric later today.
