Some useful study materials

Dear students,

Some of you have asked about solution to past finals. We currently have good coverage of final 2011, you can find two separate documents in the past exam section about answers to two final 2011 questions, both are quite difficult and you should understand fully. You can find solution to another final 2011 question in lecture note 15. We have covered all these three questions in detail in the past two recitations, so you should really take a look if you have missed the recitations.

I am going to post a brief solution (clues and final answer) to final 2013 on Monday since I solved it last year as TA.

If you have any questions about any finals, you can send me an email to make an appointment to discuss.

Best,
Hongkai

last pset in dropbox

Hi everyone,

The last problem set is graded and you can pick it up from the dropbox. A few common mistakes on the problem set:

1) in problem 2, theta is not known by players, but it is a random variable which is distributed according to some distribution conditional on the signal.

2) you should specify beliefs of the entrant after every quantity that can be chosen in the first round, but not only after monopoly quantities for MC=0 and MC=c.

Sincerely,
TAs.

Comments on the problem set

Hi guys,

Just a few comments on the last problem set.
  1. In problem 2a, make sure you write the equation that determines the threshold of the strategy. You might not be able to simplify it much further, so just do the best you can.
  2. In problem 2b, you can get a really neat answer, but this would require some knowledge of combinatorics. If you don't get it, however, you may leave the expression containing binomial coefficients.
  3. Problem 3 turned out to be easier than intended. So don't try to think that you are missing something if you got relatively simple answer (you still should write it up to get a grade).

Hopefully, this helps.

Sincerely,

Your TAs.
