Hello everyone,

16.930 Advanced Topics in Numerical Methods for Partial Differential Equations will be taught this spring. The class will meet in 33-418 on MF1:30-3:00 (if this conflicts with another class, let me know as there is some flexibility in the exact schedule). You may have noticed that the on-line subject listings are saying that the class has been canceled, but that is incorrect and should be updated in the near future.

Here’s the course description (which is correct on-line!):

Units: 3-0-9 H-level

Prereq: 16.920

Covers advanced topics in numerical methods for the discretization, solution, and control of problems governed by partial differential equations. Topics include the application of the finite element method to systems of equations with emphasis on equations governing compressible, viscous flows; grid generation; optimal control of PDE-constrained systems; a posteriori error estimation and adaptivity; reduced basis approximations and reduced-order modeling. Computer assignments require programming.
