Clarification on problem set #9
Molecular orbital theory A diagram similar to the one immediately below should be employed if needed to answer the questions
part A should read:
a. Oxygen in its ground state is paramagnetic with S = 1. There are two excited states in which the π* orbitals that have S = 0 that are called singlet states, in which the two electrons have opposite spins. Draw the MO configuration for these two higher energy states. Represent each electron in each as an arrow to show spin up or spin down.

Exam #3 results are posted
For exam #3 the average was 69.7 and the standard deviation was 16.3.
The grade groupings are:
| Grade Groupings: | |

| in trouble | 45 and below |
This is the time of the year where you can reflect on how you are doing in the course. There have been 3 exams (each worth 100 points, total of 300 points), plus you have turned in 8 out of 10 of the psets (only 2 more to go, one on next Wednesday and the other on Dec. 5th)
The final exam is also worth 300 possible points. You can figure out how you are doing in the course by adding up all of your current scores. Remember that all of your pset scores get reduced to a score of 100 points. Feel free to come and talk to your TA or myself if you are having questions about your performance in the class.
