Final Exam
Hello Everyone,
I hope your studies are going well for 5.12 and all your other subjects.
I just wanted to help by reminding you of what I would consider as the most effective way of preparing for 5.12 Final Exam consistent with what we have mentioned in class previously:
1. Review your lecture notes. If a topic was discussed in class in detail, this is due to the fact that we see these as critically important.
2. Review clicker questions. These were used to reinforce lecture topics.
3. Take practice exams under real settings. Give yourself the allowed time and take the practice exams without notes, solutions, or distraction. Then critically evaluate how you did and focus on the areas that were weak.
4. As needed, based on your own evaluation from practice exams, focus on weak areas by refreshing your recollection of lecture material, reading material, and relevant PSETs, and problems.
5. You have access to 12 one-hour exams and 2 final exams. Use these effectively to identify and focus on the areas that you need most practice and review.
As a reminder please review the Final Exam Logistics Information Sheet under the “Exams” heading on 5.12 webpages. The format and style of the Final Exam will be consistent with the Exams from this semester.
Good luck with your studies and see you Monday.
Best,
Mo

Exam 4
Hi everyone,
The answer key to Exam 4 was posted following the exam on Wednesday for your reference.
You can get your exam from your TA at the end of lecture
today, Friday December 5th, or at a later time by arranging with
your TA.
Your exam will contain a numerical score and the associated letter grade will correspond to the exact same break down that I provided for Exam 3:
100-76, A
75-56, B
55-46, C
45-40, D
<40, F
As we have mentioned before, grade ranges are determined based on expected individual performance on the exam. However, if you are interested in comparing your performance to the rest of the class, the exam average was 58.4 (standard deviation=18), with a range of 11.5-97.5.
I was happy to see very creative synthesis solutions and detailed answers to the mechanism questions. We have provided ample partial credit and I hope everyone found the content and style of the exam consistent with lecture and practice exam material, respectively. If your performance was strong, congratulations and I hope you will continue to keep up with the new material and solidify your understanding of the entire course material as we approach the final exam. If your performance was below your expectation on exam 4, then I suggest you review the exam solution and meet with your TA to review and discuss how you can best prepare for the upcoming final exam.
Exam Regrade Policy
Requests for regrades for Exam 4 should be submitted to your official recitation TA. No requests for regrades will be accepted after 1 PM on Friday, December 12. Do not write on the exam itself. Submit the exam together with an explanation of your request on a separate sheet of paper. Be sure to include your name and recitation instructor's name on the request.
